PERSONA, self-portraits, 2015 — ongoing
‘To play is to hide oneself. To be elsewhere. To protect oneself from prying eyes. To appear is to disappear.’
– Isabelle Huppert (Isabelle Huppert, une vie pour jouer, Serge Toubiana, 2001)
The most intimate method of recognizing the ever changing of the self for me would be the act of self-documenting through photography. Through the lens I can come to terms with myself, anything external or from within I can bring myself to accept, express, and listen the way a faithful friend or a lover would have done with and for me. To understand, that alone is my nominal aspiration, the light-giving beacon thorough my practice of photography. Yet it is nowhere as easy as it sounds: to be understood would require stepping out of the shadow of self-censure to express, but to express so that other people will understand you, you have to understand yourself.
